The Uniform Crime Reporting section of the West Virginia State Police publishes annual reports providing crime data for all the counties in the state. Its latest report shows that there were 145 violent crimes and 357 property crimes in Monongalia County in 2017. Compared to the crime statistics for 2013, these figures represent a 59.3% jump in violent crime rate and a 0.6% dip in property crime rate.
The West Virginia UCR 2017 annual crime report reveals that law enforcement agencies recorded 16 rapes, 9 robberies, and 120 aggravated assaults in Monongalia County. Reported incidences of property crimes include 93 burglaries, 243 larceny-thefts, and 21 motor vehicle thefts. The five-year crime trend for Monongalia County shows that rape (128.6%), robbery (200%), aggravated assault (50%), and burglary (25.7%) rates went up between 2013 and 2017. In the same period, larceny (7.3%), and motor vehicle thefts (8.7%) rates dipped.
